WaveMakers: A Local Convening of Youth for Ocean and Climate Literacy

On 28th October 2024, at Adamas University, West Bengal, a convening was co-organized by the Local Chapter of West Bengal of National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC), Adamas University and Estuarine and Coastal Studies Foundation (ECSF). This local chapter aims to raise awareness of ocean-climate literacy among youths and bring together experts to mobilize youth for climate action. The convening is expected to (i) increase awareness of ocean-climate education, (ii) improve the understanding of United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and (iii) share gaps and challenges, identify best practices and foster dialogues among stakeholders from different domain.

Ocean Literacy with all: Dialogue with ECOPs, UN Ocean Decade and WESTPAC Marine Science Conference, 22-25 Apr, Bangkok, Thailand

At the WESTPAC 2024 conference, Debarati Sengupta presented the ‘Beyond the Waves’ initiative and ECSF’s communication strategies in the Indian coasts through an engaging presentation, as one of the focal points of Ocean Literacy in Asia and co-convener of the ECOP OL workshop. She secured the prestigious ‘Inclusivity and Diversity Participation Funding’ from the Future Earth Network, USA. The workshop was a great success! Find the report here:

Celebrating ECSF’s Ocean Literacy Program Success: In December, 2023, our Ocean Literacy Coordinator Debarati Sengupta had the privilege of attending the ‘International Symposium of the United Nations Regular Process on strengthening the ocean science-policy interface’ at IOC-UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. A thought-provoking event that brought together experts and stakeholders from around the world. The two-day event was filled with insightful presentations, engaging panel discussions and fruitful networking opportunities.
