At the WESTPAC 2024 conference, Debarati Sengupta presented the ‘Beyond the Waves’ initiative and ECSF’s communication strategies in the Indian coasts through an engaging presentation, as one of the focal points of Ocean Literacy in Asia and co-convener of the ECOP OL workshop. She secured the prestigious ‘Inclusivity and Diversity Participation Funding’ from the Future Earth Network, USA. The workshop was a great success! Find the report here:

ECSF signed MoU with Kazi Nazrul College

ECSF has signed a MoU with Kabi Nazrul College, Murarai on 22.03.2024. Two institutions would jointly probe into academic and research ventures. On the occasion of ‘World Water Day 2024’ this MoU was signed at the College campus. The program was attended by students and faculties and scientists of Kabi Nazrul College and the ECSF. On the occasion the ECSF Director Dr. Sourav Paul imparted the training of water quality to many students of lab based subjects and he urges students to practice their subject. The Principal Dr. M Singh has emphasized the need to embracing knowledge beyond books and curriculum and to remain flexible working with different stakeholders. Both the institutions are optimistic to carry out more interesting education ventures in coming days.

The foundation had entered into a MoU Durgapur Goverment College, West Bengal.

The ECSF and the Durgapur Government College have entered into a MoU for five years on 19.03 2024. This was to facilitate student mobility, scientific research and joint use of resources. The said MoU also now has the scope of internship, dissertation and joint-supervision. On the occasion, the Principal Dr. Debnath Palit has mentioned the need of expanding the horizon modern education system to make students industry-ready. Dr. Paul on behalf of the ECSF has emphasized the need of practicing the subject for skill building. The occasion was graced by IQAC, departmental heads, faculty members and students of the college and the students of the ECSF. The said MoU was actively pursued by a workshop on ‘R software language: basic knowledge’ conducted by the Department of Conservation Biology where Dr. Sourav Paul (Director, ECSF) has acted as the chief resource person.

ECSF and Ravindra Mahavidyalaya jointly hosted hands-on training on measuring abiotic environment of an aquatic ecosystem.

A hands-on training of measuring abiotic environment of an aquatic ecosystem was held at the college campus of Ravindra Mahavidyalaya, Chapadanga, Hooghly. The students under the supervision of Dr. Sourav Paul (Director, ECSF) and faculty members of the departments of Geography and Zoology have been trained to measure water quality, soil and air parameters. The workshop was attended by UG students of various departments of the college.

Congratulations to Dr. Laxmi Devi P and Ms. Srirupa Saha for presenting in WOSC 2024 held at NIOT, Chennai.

ECSF congratulates Dr. Laxmi Devi P and Srirupa Saha who presented at World Ocean Science Congress held at NIOT, Chennai between 27 to 39 February 2024. Dr. Laxmi Devi has presented her research on hourly variability of heavy metals in Sundarbans estuaries in various links of a food chain. Ms Srirupa Saha had presented her research on the geomorphology vulnerability of the Sundarbans Islands.

ECSF Congratulates Dr. Sourav Paul for winning the ‘Outstanding Paper’ in Environmental Science including Climate Change category of West Bengal State Science and Technology Congress, 2024. His paper on the Perspectives of Cyclone Research Programme on estuaries in the UN Ocean Decade was awarded as the best scientific paper in the Science Congress, 2024 conducted by Department of Science and Technology and Biotechnology, Govt. of West Bengal at Science City, Kolkata, India.

ECSF-BU International Skil Building Workshop on Coastal Science

The ECSF and Berhampur University, Odisha had jointly organized international skill building workshop on coastal science. The workshop was held at the Department of Marine Sciences on 25-26 February 2024 and jointly convened by Dr. Tamoghna Acharyya and Dr. Sourav Paul. Dr. Danilo Calliari, Associate Professor of Ecology and Environment in the University of Republic, Uruguay, was the resource person along faculty members of the Department of Marine Sciences. Students, faculties of different colleges and departments took part in the workshop. Within the workshop there were hands-on training of ecosystem study conducted at the Haripur Creek followed by analysis in the laboratory and analysis of data. The workshop also included lecture on ‘A net autotrophic metabolic balance in Uruguayan marine coastal waters: background and recent results’ of Danilo Calliari. And a discussion on ‘how to write a scientific paper of coastal ecology’ by Dr. Sourav Paul. The event was covered by the local newspaper Dharitri.

Congratulations to Mr. Aritra Bhattacharya for presenting in the National Symposium of Avian Biology.

ECSF extends heartily congratulations to Mr. Aritra Bhattacharya who postered his YECS internship research conducted under Dr. Tanoy Mukherjee at the National Symposium of Avian Biology held at Graphic Era (Deemed to be University) Dehradun between 23-25 February. His work on bioaccoustic of Greater Coucal has received attention of various faculties, delegates, and students across India.
